Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate and improve its appearance. It can help reduce wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne scars, and other skin imperfections.

Indications

  • Sun damage and age spots

  • Acne and acne scars

  • Uneven skin tone and texture

  • Hyperpigmentation or melasma

Preparatory Steps:

  1. Consultation: Schedule a free consultation with our physician or physician assistant to discuss your goals, medical history, and suitability for a chemical peel.

  2. Skin preparation: Depending on your skin type and the type of peel, your provider may recommend a pre-peel skincare routine that includes gentle cleansers and moisturizers, and avoidance of certain products like retinoids or exfoliants.

  3. Sun protection: It's important to protect your skin from the sun prior to the peel. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen and avoid excessive sun exposure.

During the Procedure:

  1. Cleansing: Your skin will be cleansed to remove any dirt or oils.

  2. Application: The chemical solution will be applied to your skin using a brush or a cotton pad. The type and strength of the solution will vary based on your specific needs and the peel's depth.

  3. Sensation: You may experience a tingling, stinging, or warm sensation during the peel, but your provider will monitor your comfort level.

  4. Neutralization: After a specific time, the peel may be neutralized or removed using water or a neutralizing solution.

Post-Care Instructions:

  1. Sun protection: Protect your newly treated skin from the sun by using sunscreen with a high SPF, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and avoiding excessive sun exposure.

  2. Moisturization: Keep your skin hydrated by applying a gentle moisturizer as recommended by your provider.

  3. Avoid picking or peeling: Let the skin naturally shed and avoid picking at it to prevent scarring or skin damage.

  4. Follow instructions: Your provider will provide specific post-care instructions tailored to your peel's depth and your skin's needs. It may include avoiding certain skincare products or activities for a few days or weeks.
